Amazing Green tea

Green tea is a super food.

It contains natural antioxidants which protects your body.

Green tea
* improves your immunity.
* can protect against cancer, heart disease, hepatitis, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes.
* helps burn fat.
* can help lower blood pressure.
* can help fight allergies.

No wonder we Japanese can stay young and slim.

We use green tea to flavor our sweets. You may had green tea ice cream. If you go to a supermarket in Japan, you can find all sorts of green tea flavored sweets.

Like these.

There are chocolate, candies, cakes and biscuits.

You can make your own green tea cakes and biscuits at home. You would need the fine green tea powder often available from oriental food shops or online. It has a similar texture as cocoa powder and can be used in a similar way. You can colour your bakes in green naturally. The green tea powder may make the mixture a little bitter, so you may want to increase the amount of sugar a little if you are experimenting with it.

Here is my recipe for the green tea cookies.

50g unsalted butter or margarine at room temperature

45g shortening or vegetable fat at room temperature

200g flour

130g sugar

1 egg

1 tbsp green tea powder

80g milk chocolate pieces or white chocolate pieces

In a mixing bowl beat butter and vegetable fat with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the sugar and egg. Beat the mixture until thoroughly combined. Add flour and green tea powder and mix with spatula. Add chocolate.

Roll the dough into small balls and place them onto a cookie sheet. Squash them down a little to make the top flat. Bake in a 375 F (180 C) oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes about 30.

  1. I love a hot cup of green tea in the morning with just a splash of lemon. Helps me control my allergies and sinuses!

  2. Yum! I just picked up some matcha powder over the weekend, I’m excited to try some recipes with it. I also grabbed some Green Tea Kit Kats that are amazing!
