Fun with paper

I made this picture a few years ago. This is a Japanese art called Chigiri-e. It is a collage with torn pieces of coloured paper. You tear paper and stick to a white card. Yes, it is that simple.

We usually use coloured “Washi” paper. It is Japanese traditional paper and quite often they are hand made.
Some has beautiful patterns. You might have seen it in Origami craft.

One and only rule in Chigiri-e is; never cut paper with scissors.
You will see long fiber coming out from where you tear Washi. This adds picture this unique texture.

I started with small projects to practice.

And tried a little bigger one.

There are so many different art and craft. You might think you are not creative, but may be you just haven’t find the right one for you. You never know what you can create with your hands.

Handwork is a therapy for me. I forget time, I forget worries.

It helps me calm down and keep a healthy mental balance.

It is as good as the holidays by the beach or a big chunk of chocolate cake.

Well almost.
